An Energy Survey*, conducted in the Summer of 2006 by the Bureau of Governmental Affairs (BGA), University of North Dakota, found that:

66.8% of North Dakotans are "very concerned" or "somewhat concerned" about global warming caused by burning fossil fuels (defined as oil, coal, and natural gas).

93.3% of North Dakotans think that renewable energy should be the priority of the North Dakota Legislature.

80.9% of North Dakotans would support a law in North Dakota to require utilities to generate as much as 10% of their electricity from newable sources.

*The survey's purpose was to determine the view of North Dakotan residents regarding their attitudes towards renewable and non-renewable sources of energy by phone interviewing six hundred residents, ages 18 and older, living in the various regions of the state. The BGA chose phone numbers to ensure that these regions were proportionate represented. As stated by BGA in the report, "a random sample this size will produce estimates of the opinions of the actual population within a range of plus or minus five percent in 95 out of 100 samples. In other words, the actual population number may be as much as five percent larger or five percent smaller than the numbers in the sample."
